The Wolf of Ash and Fire is at most a year or so before Misbegotten, so around 996-997.M30 I've added all the The Primarchs novellas and short stories - does this sub-series have any particular internal continuity other than publication? Do they all occur before the Horus Heresy series proper (Last Church/Wolf of Ash and Fire aside)? I've put all that into a Google Sheet here: I've then colour-coded it, and added The Primarchs sub-series (yes I'm a completist) and updated the main series with recently-published short stories and a few missing ones that I've discovered. I've started with JIDF-Shill's superb and side-barred labour-of-love list found here: That means breaking up the anthology stories, and uncollected shorts, and putting them into their rightful place in the reading order.
I understand the merits of reading in publication order, but chronological is the way for me. Having dipped in here and there, I've now committed to reading the entire Horus Heresy series - in chronological order.
